Pay Calculators AU provides general information and free calculators about Australian pay, income tax, PAYG withholding, superannuation and leave. This Disclaimer explains the limits of those tools and guides. It applies to every page on the site, and a short version of it appears with calculator results.
Please read it before relying on any figure. A calculator cannot assess your personal tax position, award, or legal entitlements.
General information only
Everything on this site is general information only. It is written for Australian employees first, and for employers and payroll staff as a general reference second. It does not take into account your personal objectives, financial situation, tax residency details beyond the options shown, award, enterprise agreement, contract, deductions, or other circumstances.
Guides explain how a calculation usually works in plain English. They are educational material, not instructions for your specific case. Where a guide and an official source differ, the official source is correct.
Not financial, tax or legal advice
This site does not provide financial advice, tax advice or legal advice. It is not a substitute for advice from a registered tax agent, accountant, financial adviser or lawyer who knows your full circumstances.
If you need to lodge a tax return, resolve a dispute, work out super obligations for staff, interpret an award, or make a decision where the exact figure matters, get professional advice or confirm the position with the relevant authority.
Results are estimates
All calculator results are estimates based on the information you enter and the published rates and rules for the financial year you select, such as 2025-26. An estimate can help you plan, compare job offers, or check whether a payslip looks broadly right. It is not a tax assessment, not a notice from the Australian Taxation Office, not a payroll guarantee, and not a final leave balance confirmed by an employer.
Your actual tax withheld, tax payable, refund, super contribution or leave balance can differ. Payroll software, employer decisions, timing within a pay period, year to date earnings, and corrections at tax return time can all change the final outcome.
Basis of the calculations
Tax calculations use published Australian resident income tax rates from the Australian Taxation Office at ato.gov.au for the financial year selected. Super guarantee calculations use the legislated super guarantee percentage and, where the calculator applies it, the maximum super contribution base published by the ATO for that year. Leave calculations use the National Employment Standards accrual approach described by the Fair Work Ombudsman at fairwork.gov.au, with pro rata accrual for part time work.
Leave loading is not a National Employment Standards entitlement. It depends on an award or agreement, which is why calculators treat it as an optional setting. Check your award or agreement to see whether loading applies to you.
Version 1 limitations you should know
The first version of the calculators uses simplified methods in some places. These limits are stated openly so you can judge how much weight to give a result.
PAYG withholding and bonus figures use an annualised estimation method, not the ATO statement of formulas known as NAT 1004. The method annualises the pay, applies the resident rates plus the Medicare levy, and spreads the result across the year. The ATO tax tables and formulas can differ slightly because of rounding, coefficients and scale adjustments, so a payroll result in a real pay run may not match exactly.
The Medicare levy is applied at a flat 2 percent of taxable income. Low income thresholds, reductions and exemptions for the Medicare levy are not applied in version 1, so results for lower incomes may overstate the levy.
Tax offsets, including the low income tax offset, are not included. HELP repayments are not included. The Medicare levy surcharge is not included. Salary sacrifice arrangements are not included. If any of these apply to you, your actual tax or take home pay will differ from the estimate, in some cases by a material amount.
The 2027-28 maximum super contribution base was not published by the ATO at build time. For that reason, the contribution cap does not apply for 2027-28 in version 1, rather than using a guessed figure. Super estimates for high incomes in 2027-28 should be treated with extra caution for this reason.
Residency variations, working holiday maker rates, non resident rates, and other special tax treatments are outside the scope described here unless a calculator states otherwise. Do not use a resident rate estimate if your residency status is different.
No affiliation or endorsement
Pay Calculators AU is an independent website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Australian Taxation Office, the Fair Work Ombudsman, Services Australia, or any other government body or agency. Government names and official websites are mentioned only to identify the sources of rates and rules and to help you verify figures.
Errors and corrections
We work to keep rates accurate and re-verify them each June before the new financial year starts, and when official changes are published. Even with that process, errors, delays and misunderstandings can occur, and official sources can be updated after a page was checked.
If you find an error, please tell us through the Contact page, including the calculator name, the financial year selected and the official source you are relying on. Confirmed errors will be corrected. A correction does not make an earlier estimate accurate for a decision already made, so verify important figures again after any correction.
